Old Business : There was no old business it was suspended for the following month. President : Chuck Crist W9IH Vice-President : Don Hemenover N9DOO Secretary : Maria Chambers KB9RLG Treasurer : Tom Chance K9XV Chief Operator : Mike Carmer KB9RBF News Editor : Bob Marschel KB9TEA Director : Bill Goodall K9DBY New Business : We all had a nice dinner and everyone got full, after the dinner, Chuck Crist handed out awards at the dinner they were Certificate of Appreciation, here was the people whom won these awards which were handed out for the first time ever. Here are the winners of this award, Steve Wendt KB9RDS, Steve Heininger N9OI for their work with the kids and the kids net, Gale Wuollet AA9WU work with VE testing for many years, John Lee W9GRE for their work with the Blind School & IRC Chief op, Maria Chambers KB9RLG as secretary , Mike Carmer KB9RBF for bringing the donuts and the pop, Wade Kingery W9JGZ for the years he was the treasurer, and Bill Goodall K9DBY for being the president for the past several years. Then came the time to hand out the amateur of the year award out this award went to Mike Sercer WA9FDO for his work he does and his willingness to help people and taping the newsline and running it on the nets. Congratulations to all the award winners. Our guest speaker was Josh Laycock, he works at the Speedway, he told us about the history on the track like in 1908 Carl Fisher, James Allison, Frank Wheeler, and Arthur Newby was the first ones whom started and financed the track 1909 the Speedway was founded it was setup for year-round testing , it consists of 328 Acres the track is 2 ½ miles each corner is 1/8 of a mile, here are some other facts about the track , Carl Fisher had Hot Air Balloons, June 5 Hoosier Handicap Balloon Race, August 20 the race track was paved with 3.2 million bricks and such named the Brickyard and it took 63 days to complete, in 1911 the races purse was $27,650 and went to Ray Harroun. Carl fisher in 1927 sold the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker in turn he sold the track to Tony Hulman in late 1945. The 500 race was held on Memorial day since 1911 except during 1917, 1918, 1942 thur 1945 during the times of the war. !961 Ray drove his old car #11 all original around the track the total speed for the 500 track was 74.06 miles and it took 6 ½ hours, 1929 the golf course was done, ABC took the track events of the race National Broadcast in 1965, 1986 went to live broadcast. If interested in more facts on the 500 track they have a facts book out. Also Nascar started in 1994 and Jeff Gordon won and in 2000 was the Formula 1 and Schumacker won it, and in 2004 the formula 1 will move to June 18 and 19. Josh gave us a lot of facts about the track and we thank him for coming to our dinner and giving us all different facts about the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Track.
